When you offered to take a severely ill boy and his grandfather to a healer, you had no idea that it wasn't just the ice storm that would put your life in mortal danger.

Winterwrath blends dialogue-based rpg elements with a branching story told in the freezing cold. -- Playtime about 20 minutes. Play with sound!

Absolutely loved it, really looking forward to the rpg if you decide to do it!

Really loved it! I signed up for both the mailing list and followed you on Itch. You'll definitely have my support if you ever make the Kickstarter.

Aw, thank you! and thanks for subscribing! :)

This is a really nice piece! Hope you'll continue! One tech question: you don't seem to have used tiles, did you draw the background and then the props then placed the props on the background all as sprites rather than tile maps or what was your flow? I really like the non-tilyness ) Do you have any content on achieving this result? Reminds me of the hyper light drifter approach! Trying to get into art and your work was very inspiring!

(+1)

Thank you! The background is painted as an actual map. I stamped some textures like the rocks and painted where I needed definition. Foreground sprites and props are placed in the engine and pixelsnapped. None of it is tilebased :)

danke sehr! : ) its a really beautiful approach, brings back icewind memories too! : ) i appreciate the rapid help!

gorgeous art good job!

(+1)

Very good game, i really enjoy it! Artstyle is really good, music spot on for the the game atmosphare, loved it. Would gladly play full version of the game.

(+2)

Really good, enjoyed it.  The writing needs to mature though.  I'm not sure what the setting is but saying "what the fuck" and something about shitting oneself didn't really fit well.

Thank you! It was actually my first attempt to write something more narrative. I am german and I am aware that the english translation would need some lecturing. ;)

(+1)

Second in the line up. The pace good, the systems simple, I'm really curious to see what the build out will look like. Its got a good feel though.  Good work.
(+1)

that was brilliant! i really loved the artstyle and how the character gets around the map. have subscribed to the mailing list and will definitely be keeping an eye out for the release!

(+2)

I really enjoyed this. Great concept and atmosphere. If I have one criticism that for me would improve it, it is that there is the occasional modern reading idiom in the dialogue. Overall though, I look forward to more.

I VANT MOREEEEEEE. I VANTTTTTT MOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Please make sure to follow on itch and/or subscribe to my mailinglist, so you won't miss it ;)
It is so hard to get visibility on itch and every follow helps me to actually reach players when I do a sequel. Thanks a lot! :)

(+1)

Wonderful game, I loved the atmosphere and I really hope it gets fully developed! I wish you the best

(+2)

Very cool game. I hope you find success. It's also a dream of mine to make an rpg in  the future too.

(+1)

Well done! You got great skills!

(1 edit) (+1)

The game is beautiful the story is amazing, except for the copyright claim for the music.

(2 edits) (+1)

What do you mean with copyright claim? Was the music in the gameplay footage flagged or did you added it on top? Anyways I wasn't aware that the music was fingerprinted. I looked it up and read that because it is shared by the pixabay license the usage in the game/video footage is absolutely fine. Pixabay suggests: clearing the claim and taking no further action.

Thanks for playing btw and the music you added works really well. Sorry for the inconvenience.

omg i want moreeeee

The Music fits very well and adds nicely to the atmosphere. I like that your previous dialogue choices seem to directly influence the ones you can choose in the finale. I believe this would make for a very great rpg. Wish you the best with the full game, keep it up!

wow. looking  forward to more of this.

This is so beautiful!! I loved the atmosphere an the gameplay style <3

Loved this! I can't handle scary games a lot of the time but this was the perfect balance between creepy and exciting. Would love to see more!

Thanks a lot! Yeah it was my intension to make it rather creepy than scary. Please consider following me, to keep in touch when I make a new game ;)

this was really good, and I liked the choices! I got the ending where you sacrifice yourself and then attack, but I wish I knew if there were more endings and what they were, as well as a little more context t where and when, and why there aren't more people. 7-8/10 game, cute!

Yes, I missed a bit of context. Slavic mythology, 900 AD. Knowing what and how many endings would spoil the experience, don't you think?

(+1)

maybe like a little thing in the corner that says 1/_ endings would be cool. I am not a game dev and I don't know anything about making games, so feel free to do whatever you want! its really cool and I look forward to playing more of your products!

(+1)

Nice one! Really liked the suspense and atmosphere. I wanted more

(+1)

Great game!

(+1)

Fantastic lore and mechanics. Hopefully it will be completed and we can buy it on steam. You got my follow on both platforms <3

Oh, thank you! I'd like to recommend my previous adventure game The Plague Doctor of Wippra. You can find it on Steam and GOG.

(+2)

It only took me a few minutes to finish the game, and I was left wanting more. The lore, atmosphere, and story are very well done. I highly recommend it! ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ♡

(+1)

this was wonderful; super beautiful & atmospheric, the writing n lore is so interesting, i'd love to see where this goes!! so so cool

(+2)(-1)

Fantastic story and game! I do wish the game showed which choice cause which attribute, maybe the icon next to each answer. Overall great job!

(+1)

What a interesting game. I would love to see more of what this game has in store for us.

(+1)

A little gameplay, a little critique ;)

(1 edit) (+2)

Absolutely fair critique. Yeah I really missed the time and place introductory part - mostly because it was defined clearly in my head :). My inspiration was Slavic Mythology (Karachun is an actual slavic spirit of frost). Time is about 900 AD. Now that I think about it, I might add the context as an update.
